of birds and barns

Now the White Rabbit Trail has finished we are back doing the thing we know best, creating birds and barns.
We both live in villages surrounded by glorious landscape.
This is proving to be our main source of inspiration.
The Dales are renowned for their barns as much as anything, they are an integral part of the landscape along with the drystone walls that connect them. Her command on acrylics is shown beautifully in her depiction of these iconic buildings. She captures the Subtleties of colour and texture of the stones in a way that is breathtaking, you are in the landscape. Above these scenes are skies that show all extremes of our northern weather, the endless clear blue of a summer's day to the glowering aftermath of a lingering downpour.
The intensity of Sue's palette draws the viewer into the scene, becoming part of the image not just an observer.

The landscape is not her only focus.
Birds!
Another take on Sue's talent comes to the fore when her subject matter is feathered. These paintings take the form of 21st century icons. The pigeon, for instance, raised to the status of adoration, it's beauty mirrored in the use of bright colour and precious gold leaf. No mere portrait, but a salute to an oft overlooked bird that flutters in the background of most of our everyday lives.

Rabbit rabbit rabbit

Why rabbit?
Our lovely little gallery is taking part in the White Rabbit Art Trail in Ripon over the Easter period.Lots of talented local artists and many of the independent businesses in th city are involved. Visitors can pick up a map from various venues and join the hunt! It's the brainchild of Gaynor Gray and was inspired by the fact that Lewis Carroll had connections to our Cathedral, it is also 150 years since the publication of Alice in Wonderland.
